A weekend warrior is an individual who only participates in activity in their spare time. Usually it is a middle aged man who is trying to play football, hockey, softball or even worse rugby at the same rate they did in college although most of their conditioning has been lost over the years. Many different issues can arise from these hurried workouts. Here is how chiropractic treatment can help, prevent and heal the following 5 conditions.

1. Plantar fasciitis - The plantar fascia lies under the foot, it starts at the heel and travels up into the ball of the foot. It is strained due to excessive pronation or supination of the foot. This occurs in weight bearing exercises such as walking, running, basketball, etc. This is more likely to occur if you have recently gained weight, improperly fitted shoes, genetics, and the repetitive nature of the activity.

2. Ankle Sprains - A sprain is when a ligament, which by definition connects two bones, is stretched too far, in turn that means that the bones must have shifted.  This means the foot and ankle is now misaligned. They may heal in that position instead of the proper position. This is why any sprain injury requires a visit to your chiropractor. The sprain also creates soft tissue damage and tears that need to be addressed. Most people have no idea that we can help the healing process of an ankle sprain and proper rehabilitation is vital to your recovery. Don’t wait for the swelling to go down, the healing process is already starting to take place although the bones are misaligned!

We treat it by:

3. Knee Pain - This is such a complex topic- there can really be so many reasons you have knee pain. You need to get to your chiropractor so they can properly diagnose what is causing this. They will analyze the biomechanics of your leg, the arches of the foot, the mobility of the 4 bones that mostly affect the knee, look at your muscle strength/balance and asses your gait.  There can also be some imaging ordered to understand further what is going on with the knee.

We treat it by:

4. Shoulder Pain - Another issue that can occur for so many reasons. Examination and diagnosis will also be extensive in this scenario. We are dealing with multiple joints that can be the culprit of the pain- glenohumeral joint, acromioclavicluar joint, sternoclavicular joint, scapulothoracic and rib joints.  Soft tissue conditions can consist of rotator cuff tears, labrum tears, impingement syndrome, frozen shoulder. Again your chiropractor will perform the appropriate examination to diagnose you correctly. Diagnostic imagining can be needed.

We treat it by:

5. Tennis elbow or Golfer’s elbow - this is very common for a repetitive sports injury.  This occurs when the muscle is pulling on the bones of the elbow and causing increased inflammation.

We treat it by:

Most of these injuries are conditions that very much belong in your chiropractors office. Chiropractors are musculoskeletal experts and can analyze the cause of injures, determine which structures are involved and figure out how to treat or refer them.
